Project Management Animation … increasing project management performance

Project management is traditionally thought of as a combination of methodologies, processes and tools. We believe the focus should be on ensuring that the change will be accepted and engaging and motivating the team to deliver the maximum value. We work with clients to identify what they want to achieve from the adopting project management and then develop methodologies and learning and development programmes. Our development programmes enhance other project management training courses as we deal with how project management will fit your organisation, why you should be using the myriad of tools and techniques, how to use these to support rather than constrain delivery, how it should be adapted to suit different departmental and individual styles and how to make it the de-facto way of working incorporated into all the day-to-day activities. Feedback is typically, “I wish I had done this before more traditional project management training”.

Typical examples of our recent work:

  • Working with a research and development subsidiary of a major electronics conglomerate to develop and run a development programme covering people focused project management, negotiation and commercial awareness
  • Development of a project management approach incorporating lifecycle and through life processes and then the design, production and delivery across Europe of a series of project and team developmental workshops.

People Animation … enhancing the effectiveness of people through changed behaviours and relationships

It is a given that project managers manage time, cost, content: it is a new given  that to be successful they must also:

  • Create, manage and influence relationships that are complex, interacting and constantly changing
  • Add value by creating teams that enable people to engage productively with each other
  • Collaborate in order to co-ordinate the many different strategic and stakeholder perspectives
  • Vision the future so that others will want to follow
  • Overcome the resistances to change stimulated by the inherent nature of projects and programmes
  • Surface subjective attitudes to items like risk
  • Influence others without hierarchical or organisational power

Some examples of how we can deliver through people animation:

  • Based on discovering what separates “the best from the rest” in your organisation. Our consultants will design, develop and deliver an integrated training and coaching programme to enable you to create the programme leaders your organisation needs.
  • Utilising their “ruthless compassion” our consultants deliver coaching and mentoring that will enable your people to gain insights, experiment with finding their authentic “leadership voice” and sustain their new way of operating in the workplace. Since sustainable change is what we pride ourselves in delivering we will be equally ruthless in articulating the expertise and time it takes to create real behavioural and relationship change. If we don’t think we can do a good job we will tell you.

Project Culture … adapting project management to fit your culture

Culture is an umbrella term made up of a whole series of beliefs, values, structures and a host of other factors. Organisations will have their own unique culture, as will individual departments and potentially even different teams, or micro-cultures. For anyone who has attempted to change a culture, this is no quick, easy or potentially sensible thing to do. People often like the culture they work in, or at least have no desire to see it changed. When faced with a need to improve project performance, either through the adopting for the first time of a project management approach or the adaptation of the existing approach, there can often be barriers and difficulties in making the fit.

We work with clients to adapt project management to the culture rather than the other way round. We therefore create a unique project management flavour that best suits your culture and context., one that delivers performance improvement but just as importantly is sustainable.

We consider knowledge management, maturity, the make up and content of the project management framework including lifecycle, communities of practice, brand, alignment of support functions, development of people, role definitions and a host of other factors that must be adapted to deliver the optimum solution.

Typical examples of our recent work:

  • Working with a major international consultancy changing the working practices and behaviours of its specialised consultants through promotion and marketing, running of experiential workshops and e-learning
  • Working with a government research council to change the way Programme Managers and their teams view and make use of project management including the design of a simple project management framework and development program

Project Branding™ … winning hearts and minds

Winning Minds through the accumulated wisdom of Project Management

Winning Hearts through creating a project which people can believe in, have a relationship with and develop some level of emotional attachment. The personality or soul of your project we call the project brand.

  • Without a soul how can there be an emotional attachment?
  • Without emotional attachment how will you get the undivided and full support of the team?
  • We believe the project brand is key to maximising buy-in and support from individuals, the team and the myriad of people required to make projects a success.
  • How much soul is there in your projects in your organisation right now?

What we do in practice:

Team Animation provides consultancy, facilitated workshops and training services to assist clients in achieving buy-in. Supporting and challenging you to create the project brand that will attract the interest, emotion and energy on which every project depends. The questions we will help you answer include:

  • How can you achieve maximum impact and support for your project?
  • How can you feature your project on every stakeholder’s dashboard?
  • How can you build an emotional attachment to your project?
  • Is it as simple as giving the project a catchy name?
